The full-motion video game places players in the shoes of John, the main protagonist who has spent his entire life in a fallout shelter in Britain following a devastating nuclear war. The game follows John’s daily routine—until an alarm shatters the monotony, forcing him to explore long-forgotten sections of the bunker. As he ventures deeper into the shadows, players guide him through a psychological and physical journey, uncovering his repressed memories and unlocking the dark secrets buried within the bunker’s walls.

Given the game's distinct 1980s aesthetic, director and writer Allan Plenderleith sought inspiration from the era’s iconic synth-driven scores, particularly those of director/composer John Carpenter and Vangelis. However, he envisioned a modern twist that would blend nostalgia with contemporary cinematic depth. With this in mind, I composed multiple underscores designed to heighten the tension, underscore key character-driven moments, and enhance the game’s evolving sense of mystery and dread.

This project was a deeply rewarding opportunity for me to immerse myself in the rich textures of retro synth sounds that defined my childhood. By fusing these vintage tones with modern production techniques, I was able to craft a sonic landscape that not only honored the game’s retro influences but also introduced fresh, layered dimensions to the unfolding drama.

The game’s score was recognized with a MOSMA Jerry Goldsmith Silver Medal Award, a testament to its impact in elevating the immersive experience.

Critics also praised the sound design and music, with GamesRadar’s David Roberts highlighting the soundtrack’s effectiveness:

"The John Carpenter-ian strains of its synths and the quality foley work help sell some of its more distressing moments... Playing in the dark with my headphones in, this scene got under my skin in a way few games have."
